Experience
I'm a substitute teacher for the Merrick and Locust Valley school districts. I graduated with my MS in education and students with disabilities, from newborns through sixth grade. I'll spend the summer as a special needs coordinator at a Long Island day camp. As I worked towards my undergrad degree, I also worked as an AVID (Academic Via Individual Determination) tutor in the local district. Because of that experience, I realized the importance of building a student's confidence in their academic abilities, and encouraging problem solving and higher-level thinking. I even spent half a year in Spain at the Alicante Language Institute, where I learned not only the language of Spanish, but also Spanish culture. Following this, I spent a month as a volunteer native English speaker in a school in Chile. I have excellent organizational skills, and have fun creating individualized lessons for each of my students. I build good relationships with students from any population. I appreciate the challenge to continue to be creative, nurture my students, and especially, have patience. Each student has their own special set of knowledge and skills. I use these to inspire and motivate them. I have more than five years of classroom experience in addition to my tutoring experiences. I also enjoy photography, Pilates, and reading.
